Tyg tar form

I want to show that the feminine connotations of textiles give upholstered furniture and furniture with textile expressions a subordinate role in the design world. The fabric on seating furniture is usually replaceable and considered less important than the shape of the furniture. By constantly making the textile replaceable, it is marginalized and made subordinate to the shape of the furniture. What does this mean for furniture and interior design?

I hope to show a piece of furniture that does not adhere to the prevailing order, and where fabric and shape work together. I have drawn inspiration from Lilli Zickerman’s collection of photographs of old Swedish textiles for home furnishings, combined with patterns and expressions with similar characteristics from around the world, in nameless textile traditions often worn by women.
During production I have used worn-out quilted jackets as stuffing, while the surface is covered in strips cut from worn-out t-shirts.

“The core is the inner, invisible structure hidden behind the true and legitimate representative of the furniture; the colorful fabric.” (Gottfried Semper)

Tyg tar form

(Gottfried Semper)
