…to turn “scientific results upside down, not to tell a great narrative of progress, but simply to explore the nature of the atmospheres in which we are all collectively attempting to survive”. * (Bruno Latour)

In this year’s Bachelor’s exhibition in Interior Architecture and Furniture Design we will be able to pose questions such as: What does an ornament do today? How can manifestations construct a place? Where is the interior? How does sound envelope? Is it possible to delay solidification? What is care? How is air caught? Who reads a plan? What does a construction do?

The projects try to articulate, challenge and examine the specifics in the field of interior architecture and furniture design in relation to its history, its current context and, in particular, to the fringes of the discipline, in meeting other practices and subject fields. The different areas of architecture continuously borrow and mix scales, references, techniques and terminology from each other in order to drive the idea of its missions and limits. This dialog is worth maintaining as well as challenging.

Architectural fields such as interior architecture, furniture design or landscape architecture feature constant translations from medium to medium, from plan to model, from plan to interior, from representation to fabrication, from instruction to action. Each medium has its own limitations and transformative possibilities. One concern in the discipline has been to retain the content and likeness from idea to representation to the final construction. But both historically and currently, this space remains an important place for exploring architecture, and for its generative potential in translations between media.

All these aspects are tested in this year’s Bachelors’ exhibition, in a series of installations, rooms, furniture, representations, models, examinations, places, media. Welcome!
