My project, Feel Flows will focus on the visual explorations of music. I’ve been constantly seeking new ways to represent sound to create connection, insight, narrative and beauty between sound and design.
I’ve always had a fascination about the parallels between music and visual representation and how rhythm, in my opinion, is such an important link between these two genres which are capable of illustrating temporal movement. I’ve been trying to create experiments in my work through models, thoughts and tests while I was listening to different music pieces.
Not long ago, I found a project by the artist Paul Klee and his translation of a fugue from the 1910s. In his approach, he saw a further connecting factor in the clear, structural articulation found in the musical compositions and in the treatment of several parts.
What I aim to achieve with this project is how a particular compositional style can serve as an orientation for the creation of another piece. In this case, my three dimensional representations of floating, colored forms that are either figurative or abstract. These variations overlap one another in a tonal sequence, from dark to light. It’s also very important that the temporal aspect is presented graphically through the gradual emergence of the forms (i.e. from the dark ground to the maximum transparency and how I include it in my models by the use of color tones).
Through this process, I’m trying to visualize the shape of a song, revealing repetitions and the rhythm of musical passages and my understanding of them by creating representations of overlapping and translucent elements as a three dimensional work which is the final outcome from my experiments.
Fokus i mitt projekt Feel Flows ligger på det visuella utforskandet av musik. Jag har alltid letat efter nya sätt att återge ljud för att skapa kopplingar, insikter, berättelser och skönhet mellan ljud och design.
Något som alltid har fascinerat mig är parallellerna mellan musik och visuella representationer och hur rytmen, så som jag ser det, utgör en så viktig länk mellan dessa två genrer som kan illustrera tidens rörelse. I mitt arbete har jag försökt skapa experiment med hjälp av modeller, tankar och tester medan jag lyssnat på olika musikaliska verk.
För inte så länge sedan stötte jag på ett projekt av konstnären Paul Klee där han tolkade en fuga från 1910-talet. Med sin metod fann hann ännu en sammanbindande faktor i den tydliga, strukturella artikuleringen hos de musikaliska kompositionerna och i behandlingen av flera delar.
Vad jag vill visa med det här projektet är hur en viss kompositionsstil kan ge riktning åt skapandet av ett annat verk – i det här fallet mina tredimensionella representationer av flytande, färgade former som är antingen figurativa eller abstrakta. Dessa variationer överlappar varandra i en tonal sekvens, från mörkt till ljust. Det är också mycket viktigt att tidsaspekten presenteras grafiskt genom formernas gradvisa framträdande (t.ex. från den mörka grunden till maximal genomskinlighet och hur jag tar med detta i mina modeller genom att använda färgtoner).
Via den här processen försöker jag visualisera ett musikstyckes form och visa på upprepningar och rytm i musikaliska passager och min förståelse av dem. Jag gör detta genom att skapa representationer av överlappande och delvis genomskinliga element i form av ett tredimensionellt verk som utgör slutresultatet av mina experiment.
