Anna Ihle

Idle Hands

By taking on different traditions and materials, Anna Ihle explores work ethics.

During her MFA at Konstfack, Ihle first took on khadi, which is an Indian textile, and textile production intrinsic to the independence movement in India. Parts of conversations with people from the handloom industry were included in the 2013 exhibition, “Dear Heenaben, I’m showing your embroidery in Stockholm now. It looks great.”

At the degree exhibition, Anna Ihle, is showing the work Idle Hands, which has its starting point from a Norwegian protestant tradition. By negotiating her own motivation to work through the eyes of a protestant work ethic and the precariat contemporary artist, she insists on submission in her work, where different world views can collide and co-exist.

Idle Hands

Delar av samtal med människor i handvävningsbranschen ingick i hennes utställning från 2013, Dear Heenaben, I’m showing your embroidery in Stockholm now. It looks great.
