As a sculptor I want to create an alternative to the general perception of old persons as a problem, and the idealization of the old lady as a kind, fair and bun-baking creature, as well as an alternative to the traditional sculpting tradition that has shown men in powerful poses or gentle, passive women/girls.
I simply want to show another truth – my perspective on things.
I base my theories on observations and the experiences of others. I aim to create portraits of individuals rather than looking at old people as a homogenous collective.
I have chosen to focus more on the positives of aging, but I do not intend to belittle the sorrows that aging often brings.
In my work, I want to create and promote a counterbalance to the debate that often views old persons as a monolithic collective of tragic victims, a counterbalance to the gray mass which is faceless outside of healthcare debates.
I want to show people who are constantly finding new strategies in an ever-changing life.
I tell the story of the strong, stubborn, eccentric and perfectly normal old lady.
Som skulptör vill jag skapa ett alternativ till en allmänt spridd bild av gamla människor som ett problem samt idealiseringen av tanten som en snäll, vän och bullbakande varelse, såväl som ett alternativ till den traditionella skulpturtraditionen som ofta visat män i maktposition eller ljuva passiva kvinnor/flickor.
Jag vill helt enkelt visa en annan sanning, min syn på det hela.
Jag bygger mina teorier på iakttagelser och andra människors erfarenheter. Jag är ute efter att skapa porträtt av individuella människor snarare än att se på gamla människor som ett homogent kollektiv.
Jag har valt att fokusera på mer positiva delar av åldrandet, men det är inte min mening att förringa de sorger som ålderdomen många gånger för med sig.
Det jag vill göra med mitt arbete är att skapa och sprida en motpol till den debatt som ofta ser gamla människor som ett enhetligt kollektiv av tragiska offer, en motpol till den grå massa som inte har något annat ansikte än vid en vårddebatt.
Att visa på människor som hela tiden hittar nya strategier i ett liv i ständig förändring.
Jag berättar om den starka, envisa, excentriska och alldeles, alldeles vanliga tanten.
